Custom Annotation

With Bio::POD, you may add custom annotation to a gene.

First, start by selecting the region* where you wish to add the annotation.

* Two things to note when selecting a region for custom annotation:

  1. Select sequence in the Transcript View if your annotation is specific to the coding portion of the gene such as domains and secondary structures. Select in the Genomic View if it is not coding specific such as SNPs.
  2. If you are selecting a region to add your own primer pair, do not just select the sequence that will get amplified, include the exact sequence starting from the start of the left primer to the end of the right primer.

Second, right-click (or Ctrl+click) the selected sequence and click "Create Annotation...". A "Create Annotation" window will appear. An example is shown here:

You may select a currently existing Annotation Type or create your own simply by typing it into the Type box. Keep in mind that all annotation of the same type will appear in the same color and share the same options for the PAR algorithm.

Once you are done adding your custom annotation information, click "Add". The annotation will appear as in this example:

If you created a new Annotation Type, you may wish to modify the default annotation options available by clicking "Options > Annotation Options..." and selecting the new type from the drop-down box. More information on annotation can be found in Understanding Annotation.
